Catholic Church to Canonize Teenager Labeled ‘Patron Saint of the Internet’

Pope Francis announced that Carlo Acutis, who died of leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15, will be canonized.

Acutis was informally known as “God’s influencer” for running Catholic websites. He has also been called the “patron saint of the internet.”

According to GB News, Acutis’ final words to his mother were: “Mum, don’t be afraid. Since Jesus became a man, death has become the passage towards life, and we don’t need to flee it. Let us prepare ourselves to experience something extraordinary in the eternal life.”

Acutis was beatified after a Brazilian boy’s family said their son was cured of a serious birth defect in 2020. The healing occurred after he obtained an object from Acutis’ mother. Another healing occurred in 2022 after a girl recovered from a head injury after her mother prayed at Acutis’ tomb.

The teen will be canonized during the Jubilee of Adolescents at the Vatican on the weekend of April 25-27.
