Canada’s Trudeau Met With Co-Founder of Ukraine’s Fascist Party

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland held a meeting last month with a famous Ukrainian neo-Nazi.

QUICK FACTS:
  • In February, Trudeau and Freeland reportedly met with Andriy Parubiy, infamous for embracing far-right Nazism and co-founding the Nazi-styled Social National Party of Ukraine, True North reported.
  • Parubiy has met with Trudeau on two separate documented occasions in the past, first in Feb. 2016 while visiting Ottawa and again later that July while Trudeau was visiting Kiev.
  • Freeland was also a part of the July meeting, and again in May of 2019 when the Deputy Prime Minister wrote about it on Facebook.
FREELAND ON MEETING UKRAINIAN NEO-NAZI:

“Met with Andriy Parubiy, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, and discussed the role that Canadian election monitors played in Ukraine’s presidential elections and will play again parliamentary elections later this year.”

BACKGROUND:
  • Parubiy, who served as the equivalent of the legislative speaker in Ukrainian Parliament, also founded the Patriot of Ukraine group, which formed Azov, Ukraine’s neo-Nazi battalion, The Post Millennial reported.
  • A report from the Jerusalem Post reveal that Parubiy made antisemitic comments as recently as 2016.
  • According to the report, he blamed Jews for sending convicts to settle Eastern Ukraine and attempting to erase the memory of the Holodomor.
  • In 2017, Parubiy called Nazi collaborator Roman Shukhevych a “legend” and a “true military general.”
