California Names Street After Charlie Kirk

A street in Westminster, California, has been renamed in honor of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Portions of the street All American Way are now called Charlie Kirk Way.

Mayor Charlie Nguyen announced the change in a social media statement. “As Mayor, I am proud that Westminster, CA is the first city in the country to dedicate an official Charlie Kirk Way,” he wrote. “We honor Charlie for his faith, his love of country and his devotion to his amazing family. We are inspired by [Erika Kirk] and all she’s done to carry on Charlie’s work.”

Nguyen shared the shift during a November city council meeting. “All American Way has always symbolized unity and patriotism,” he said, as per CBS News. “By redesignating it as All American Charlie Kirk Way, we are expanding that meaning to honor someone who has encouraged a new generation to care about their country, to get involved and to speak up for what they believe in.”

The shift intends to honor Kirk’s “life and legacy,” Nguyen stated.

Some have criticized the sign, according to ABC 7. “I thought it was a joke,” one resident said. Another called the move “hateful.”

“That street is called All American Way. That is inclusive. That welcomes everyone into our Civic Center,” said Westminster resident Terry Rains. “These are all public buildings, and so tainting the name just completely denigrates the entire… what that stands for.”

Florida has also named a road in honor of Kirk. “The road is a section of Wellness Way from US 27 to the Orange County line,” Governor Ron DeSantis (R) said in October. “Lake County’s dedication of the highway represents the first county to memorialize Kirk in the aftermath of his assassination.”
