The Buffalo Bills announced that they will be sponsoring a National Gay Flag Football League (NGFFL) chapter.
Buffalo, New York, will be the 28th city to have a NGFFL team.
Other football teams involved with the NGFFL include the New England Patriots, Giants, Jets, Dolphins, Cardinals, Bears, Commanders, and Seahawks.
“We are thrilled to bring inclusive flag football to Buffalo with the support of the Buffalo Bills. This exciting addition joins 27 other cities, and over 4,000 players, including straight allies, in the National Gay Flag Football League,” NGFFL Commissioner Joel Horton said in a press release.
“Our mission is to unite the community through the spirit of competition while celebrating our diversity. By fostering an environment where everyone is welcome, we aim to build a stronger, more inclusive Buffalo,” Horton added. “Together, with the backing of the Buffalo Bills, we are creating a space where all individuals can participate, compete, and thrive.”
Michelle Roberts, Buffalo Bills Vice President of Community Impact, similarly said that the football team is “excited” to join others who have supported the NGFFL. “Through our sponsorship, we are looking forward to expanding the impact of the NGFFL in our community,” Robert said.
NGFFL said the collaboration between it and the Buffalo Bills was a “game-changer.”
“This collaboration is a game-changer for bringing LGBTQ+ organized football to Buffalo,” is stated, adding, “Collaborations with NFL teams in shared markets go beyond financial support; they are genuine community partnerships. Our NFL supporters have opened their facilities to LGBTQ+ football practices and warmly welcomed players, fostering a more inclusive environment in their cities.”
Journalist Carmine Sabia condemned the move on X, writing, “This is what the end of the United States looks like.”
