Bud Light Greatly Discounted Costco Price Goes Viral

An image went viral this weekend showing a shelf full of discounted Bud Light 36-packs at a Costco location.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Conservative commentator Ryan Fournier posted an image of a discounted Bud Light 36-pack at a Costco location this weekend that later went viral.
  • Fournier’s photo revealed a 36-pack of Bud Light on sale for less than $0.41 per can.
  • “This is insane,” the conservative wrote. “This is the cost of Anheuser-Busch: 36-packs on clearance for $14.97 at a Costco location.”
  • Many commented on the post saying they would not buy the beer no matter how discounted it was.
  • “I wouldn’t take it even if they gave it away!” one Facebook user said.
  • “Hey Anheuser-Busch, I spun up a little apology for you to read since you all seem to be having difficulty finding the right words. Here. ‘We’re sorry, we should not insert our politics into our advertising. We won’t do it again.’ Just some friendly advice for you,” another commented.
CONSERVATIVE COMMENTATOR TOMI LAHREN ON BUD LIGHT GOING “WOKE”:

“Conservative consumers matter. And I think that Bud Light and all other companies out there are learning that the hard way… With this Bud Light commercial and this backlash, it shows that conservatives do in fact matter,” Lahren said.

BACKGROUND:
  • Last week, American Faith reported Bud Light had witnessed a major decline in sales since partnering with trans-identifying influencer Dylan Mulvaney, a biological male, at the beginning of the month.
  • According to data from NielsenIQ, the company’s sales fell 17% in dollars and 21% in volume from the week of April 15.
  • “These numbers are staggering,” beer-focused newsletter Insights Express wrote. “Right now this is an extremely difficult scenario for Anheuser-Busch, the Bud Light brand and for Ab distributors.”
  • The campaign has given Anheuser-Busch an increasing amount of negative publicity, as the company announced over the weekend that the marketing executive responsible for hiring Mulvaney was taking a leave of absence.
  • In early April, Mulvaney posted a video to his Instagram followers promoting a new partnership with the brewing company.
  • “This month, I celebrated my day 365 of womanhood, and Bud Light sent me possibly the best gift ever, a can with my face on it,” Mulvaney said at the time.
