Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) is calling for immediate investigations into President Joe Biden’s mental fitness and the alleged concealment of his cognitive decline following the release of audio from an October 2023 interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. The audio, which has reignited concerns over Biden’s mental capacity, reveals a commander-in-chief appearing unaware and confused while being questioned on his handling of classified materials.
Appearing on Fox News Channel’s Hannity Friday night, Blackburn told guest host Jason Chaffetz that Biden is “not the one making decisions,” describing the White House as being run “by committee.” She said both the House and Senate should launch formal investigations and also called on the Department of Justice and FBI to probe the matter further.
Chaffetz pressed Blackburn on whether the Senate Judiciary Committee, on which she serves, would hold the administration accountable, citing Biden’s apparent inability to fulfill the responsibilities of his office—including managing the nuclear codes. “There is a fiduciary responsibility,” he said, “to inform others that the president… was not of the cognitive capability to make good, rational, regular decisions.”
Blackburn agreed, adding that the administration had tried to discredit Special Counsel Hur to cover up Biden’s condition. She emphasized that the American people demanded change by voting for President Donald Trump on November 5, rejecting what she described as a two-tiered system of justice.
She also pointed to broader concerns, including immigration enforcement failures. “Look at what is happening with deportations,” Blackburn said, noting Tennessee’s own Nashville mayor for shielding criminal illegal aliens from removal. “We need to look at all of this.”
The renewed scrutiny of Biden’s competency is likely to fuel further political and legal battles in Washington as the 2024 election cycle heats up.
The audio in question, recorded during Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents, has stirred bipartisan concern and renewed calls for transparency regarding the president’s mental fitness. Critics argue the White House has intentionally downplayed or concealed Biden’s cognitive decline, shielding him from accountability while allowing unelected staff and advisors to steer key national decisions. Blackburn’s demand for a full investigation aligns with growing public sentiment that the American people deserve clarity on who is truly making decisions in the executive branch.
