The White House declared on X that “it’s time” to “ban assault weapons” despite efforts to portray Vice President Kamala Harris as a Second Amendment advocate.
The statement comes as the Harris campaign has tried to portray the vice president as a Second Amendment advocate.
During her interview with “60 Minutes,” Harris claimed she owns a Glock.
“I have a Glock,” Harris said. Host Bill Whitaker then asked the vice president, “Have you ever fired it?”
“Yes. Of course, I have,” she responded, laughing.
Similarly, during the presidential debate, Harris said, “We’re not taking anybody’s guns away.”
Despite this comment, Harris’ campaign website states that she would ban “assault weapons and high-capacity magazines” if she becomes president.
