Biden Gives False Impression on Jobs During State of the Union Address

Democrat policies shuttered businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Biden gave false impressions during his Wednesday State of the Union address when he overestimated the number of American jobs created.
  • “Two years ago, our economy was reeling,” Biden began, failing to mention that American jobs were lost due to Democrat pandemic policies, which shut down the economy.
  • “As I stand here tonight, we have created a record 12 million new jobs, more jobs created in two years than any president has ever created in four years,” Biden said.
  • He argued that his administration “created 800,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs, the fastest growth in 40 years.”
  • Rather than creating 800,000 jobs, many American jobs were merely recovered in a post-pandemic economy.
  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data show that a net 214,000 manufacturing jobs were created since Biden took office, a far cry from the touted 800,000, according to Fox News.
  • House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) said the January jobs report from BLS, which stated 517,000 jobs were added, contributed to the Biden admin’s “false advertising.”
  • “Any job growth is good news, but labor force participation is still disappointingly below pre-pandemic levels and the economy is being weighed down by Democrats’ deficit spending triggering a vicious cycle of historic inflation leading to ever higher interest rates,” Smith noted.
TRUMP RESPONDS TO STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS:
  • Trump released a video to express his sentiments about the state of America under the Biden admin.
  • “Here’s the real state of the union. Over the past two years, under Biden, millions and millions of illegal aliens from 160 different countries have stormed across our southern border,” said Trump, describing the U.S. Southern Border crisis.
  • Trump condemned Democrats’ handling of inflation, saying, “Biden and the radical democrats have wasted trillions of dollars and caused the worst inflation in half a century. Real wages are down 21 months in a row. Gas prices have soared and are now going up much higher than even before.”
  • Trump also criticized Biden’s “weaponized justice system,” noting that he is a “victim of it.”
  • He ended his message on a positive note: “I am running for president to end the destruction of our country and to complete the unfinished business of making America great again. We will make our country better than ever before, and we will always put America first,” he said.
BACKGROUND:
