President Joe Biden criticized the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) requests for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leaders.
“The ICC prosecutor’s application for arrest warrants against Israeli leaders is outrageous,” he said in a statement.
Biden stated that Israel is not committing genocide.
“And let me be clear: whatever this prosecutor might imply, there is no equivalence — none — between Israel and Hamas. We will always stand with Israel against threats to its security,” Biden declared.
“[C]ontrary to allegations against Israel made by the International Court of Justice, what’s happening is not genocide,” he asserted. “We reject that. And we’ll always stand with Israel and the threats against its security.”
The statement comes as ICC Prosecutor Karim Kahn filed arrest warrants for Hamas leaders as well as Netanyahu and Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant.
According to the prosecutor, Israel starved civilians, caused “great suffering,” and intentionally directed attacks against civilians.
