The Biden campaign is launching a task force to combat “cheap fakes,” or videos of President Joe Biden exhibiting bizarre or confusing behavior.
The “cheap fakes” have been viewed as “disinformation,” such as Biden’s wandering during the G7 conference.
Adrienne Elrod, a spokesperson for the Biden campaign, said the video of Biden’s aimless wandering was used by Republicans without context.
Discussing the clip on MSNBC, Elrod said, “We have to combat that disinformation, we have to hit it hard when it happens and make it clear that these are dirty tactics that MAGA Republicans are using, because they can’t run on the issues…”
Some jokingly asked if “cheap fakes” include Biden tripping on the stairs of Air Force One.
“KJP claimed that the videos of Joe Biden freezing are ‘cheap fakes’ and ‘manipulated,'” Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) wrote on X. “Someone in the White House Press corps should ask if it includes these.”
According to Politico, the “cheap fake” initiative is intended to “mitigate the risks” posed by the clips.
“Voters deserve accurate information to inform their choice this November and our campaign will be vigilant in calling out these lies when we see them,” Biden campaign spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg told the outlet. “We hope media organizations and others with influential platforms follow our lead.”
