Biden Campaign Airs Abortion Ad Featuring Texas Woman’s Experience

President Joe Biden’s campaign has launched a new abortion ad in response to recent statements by former President Donald Trump advocating for state-based regulation of abortion, bypassing calls for a national ban from some of his supporters.

The 60-second ad, which debuted Monday on MSNBC, features Amanda Zurawski, a Texas woman who sued the state after experiencing complications from a miscarriage. In the video, Zurawski and her husband, Josh, share their story of preparing for their baby’s arrival during her pregnancy, including purchasing items like a baby book.

“At 18 weeks, Amanda’s water broke,” the ad states. “She had a miscarriage.”

The couple recounts their memories of the pregnancy, while the ad highlights that Amanda was supposedly denied medical care to prevent infection and obtain an abortion due to actions taken by Donald Trump.

Doctors were forced to send Amanda home, and she ended up in intensive care with sepsis three days later, according to the ad.

“She almost died twice,” the ad states. “The infection caused so much damage that Amanda may never get pregnant again.” The ad concludes with Amanda crying, with her husband consoling her, accompanied by the message: “Donald Trump is responsible.”

The ad is part of a $30 million campaign airing in battleground states on local and national television, including prominent sports and entertainment programs like “Saturday Night Live,” “The Voice,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” according to the Biden campaign.

In February, the couple told NBC News they were considering moving Amanda’s frozen embryos out of Texas due to concerns over in vitro fertilization services potentially being halted in the state. The report highlighted her lawsuit against Texas after facing life-threatening delays for a medically necessary abortion.
