“It is indeed a great honor to be here on this fine morning to put into action the relationship that exists between our two countries, we will be discussing security issues, we will be discussing trade, and investment, which is very important,” the crown prince said. “We’re very happy to be announcing $17 billion worth of deals that are coming to the United States.”
“It only builds upon a legacy that we’re very proud of,” he added.
President Trump said it was a “great honor” to meet with the official, emphasizing that the United States and Bahrain have a “tremendous relationship.”
“It has been a fantastic ally,” Trump said. “Anything they needed, we helped them, and anything we needed, they helped us.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio And Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani also signed a memorandum of understanding on nuclear cooperation, a move which Rubio described as “the first step towards a deeper civil nuclear cooperation – an example that the United States is prepared to be a partner with any nation on Earth that wants to pursue a civil nuclear program that clearly is not geared towards weaponization or threatening the security of their neighbors.”
“There is no doubt that cooperation on nuclear technology will be a vital contributor to our shared responsibility and prosperity in the years ahead,” Al-Zayani stated. “And we in Bahrain deeply value the chance to benefit from the U.S. world-leading technology and expertise in this field. Further, signing this MOU reinforces our two countries’ determination to prevent the proliferation of nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction as an essential element of regional security.”
