AOC Complains About Number of White Men in Congress

During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) suggested Congress has too many white men.

“One of the things we need to take a look at is the world that they’re fighting for, a world without diversity, equity, and inclusion policies,” she said, “which is to say the default, which is to say workplaces that are honestly kind of like Congress.”

She said that 59% of the population of the United States is made up of white people, noting that white people make up 75% of Congress.

While men make up 50% of the U.S. population, they comprise 50% of Congress, AOC continued.

Some believe the comments were made in response to fellow New York Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman losing his reelection bid.

“She’s just trying to cope with the fact that @JamaalBowmanNY got unseated by a white man,” former U.S. Representative Madison Cawrthorsn (N.C.) said.
