Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said Americans will be “appalled” by the report on the security failures surrounding the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
“I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president,” Blumenthal said.
“But I think they also ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming, to be as candid and frank, as it should be to them in terms of providing information.”
Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) told Fox News there is still “a lot more information that we need to find.”
Republican Senator Ron Johnson (WI) wrote on X that the lawmakers will “continue to press the Secret Service and FBI for witnesses and documents.”
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), whose office created a whistleblower line for those with information relating to the July 13 assassination attempt, said that an advance agent “may have failed one or more of her training exams and was known not to be a top quality agent.”
The statement is the latest in Hawley’s whistleblower allegations.
“The fact that the director will not level with the American people about what’s going on here is just totally unacceptable and unbelievable,” the senator said.
