Majority of Americans Support Recent Immigration Enforcement Raids

A recent Rasmussen Reports survey indicates that 57% of likely U.S. voters approve of the immigration enforcement raids initiated since President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Among these, 38% strongly approve, while 39% disapprove, including 24% who strongly disapprove.

The survey, conducted between January 26-28, 2025, included 1,229 likely voters. It also revealed that 48% believe officials in sanctuary cities should face prosecution if they interfere with federal immigration enforcement, whereas 38% disagree, and 14% remain uncertain.

Approval of the raids varies across political affiliations:

  • 81% of Republicans approve, with 47% strongly approving.
  • 36% of Democrats approve, while 47% strongly disapprove.
  • 45% of unaffiliated voters approve, with 16% strongly disapproving.

Regarding the prosecution of sanctuary city officials who hinder federal enforcement:

  • 71% of Republicans are in favor.
  • 28% of Democrats support such measures.
  • 46% of unaffiliated voters agree.

Demographic insights show that 62% of men and 52% of women approve of the raids. Additionally, 58% of white voters, 54% of Black voters, 57% of Hispanic voters, and 50% of other minorities express approval. However, Black voters are more likely to oppose federal prosecution of sanctuary city officials compared to other groups.

The survey also highlights a significant divide between supporters of President Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Among Trump’s voters, 87% approve of the raids, whereas 70% of Harris’ voters disapprove.

The margin of sampling error for this survey is ±3 percentage points with a 95% confidence level.
