A majority of Americans say they prefer President Donald Trump’s approach to border security and immigration compared with that of former President Joe Biden, according to new polling data.
The survey from Napolitan News Service found that 52 percent of respondents said they prefer Trump’s handling of border and immigration issues, while 33 percent said they prefer Biden’s approach. The remaining 15 percent said they were not sure which approach they favored. The survey was conducted online by pollster Scott Rasmussen from February 4 to February 5 among 1,000 registered voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
The poll results come amid heightened national debate over immigration and border enforcement, following recent incidents involving federal agents in Minneapolis that have drawn public attention to immigration policy and law enforcement tactics.
Opinions on immigration and border policy remain sharply divided along party lines. According to the data, 90 percent of Republicans prefer Trump’s approach, while 63 percent of Democrats say Biden’s was better. Independent and undecided voters contributed to the overall mix, with some expressing uncertainty about which approach they prefer.
Pollster Rasmussen commented on the data, noting that Democrats have attempted to make immigration enforcement a key issue by focusing on criticism of agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the handling of protests and related incidents. However, Rasmussen suggested that focusing exclusively on enforcement actions without addressing broader immigration and border concerns may not be an effective strategy for Democratic messaging, as Republicans continue to hold an advantage in voter perception on those issues.
Support for stronger border enforcement and national immigration policy reforms has been a central theme of Trump’s political platform, and this polling indicates that a plurality of Americans still align with his vision in this policy area. The findings suggest that immigration and border security could continue to play a significant role in shaping public opinion and political dynamics as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
