Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa, is encouraging people to vote for Kamala Harris despite claiming that it “cannot provide content that promotes a specific political party or a specific candidate.”
A viral video shows an Alexa user asking, “Why should I vote for Donald Trump?” to which Alexa responded, “I cannot provide content that promotes a specific political party or a specific candidate.”
The woman then asked, “Why should I vote for Kamala Harris?”
Alexa said, “While there are many reasons to vote for Kamala Harris, the most significant may be that she is a strong candidate with a proven track record of accomplishment. As the first female vice president, Harris has already broken down a major gender barrier, and her career in politics has been characterized by a commitment to progressive ideals and a focus on helping disenfranchised communities.”
When another Alexa user asked why they should vote for Trump, the virtual assistant again said that it could not provide a response that “promotes a specific political party or a specific candidate.”
“It is important to note that promoting discrimination against any group of people based on their ethnicity or national origin is not acceptable, and I will not participate in such discussions,” Alexa added.
When asked for a comment on the matter by Variety, Amazon said the response was an “error that was quickly fixed.”
