As the United States celebrated 250 years of independence over the weekend, allied countries across the world similarly recognized the nation’s anniversary.
France lit up the Eiffel Tower and displayed a “USA 50” in red, white, and blue. “The Eiffel Tower lit up in the colors of the United States, reflecting France’s heartfelt tribute to America’s 250th anniversary,” the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs wrote on X. “A powerful reminder that the friendship between our two nations dates back to the 18th century.”
France also made “Liberty Lights” for the United States in honor of its 250th, a first-of-its-kind laser and light show that illuminated the Statue of Liberty.
King Charles III wrote in a message to President Trump, “Through centuries of shared challenge and achievement, our nations have built a relationship founded on friendship, trust and a belief in liberty, the rule of law and the dignity of all people.” He noted, “As we look ahead to the next 250 years, I have no doubt we will continue to defend our shared values. The connection between our peoples is one that I trust will only grow stronger with time.”
Canada also honored the 250th, illuminating Niagara Falls in red, white, and blue.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a statement, in part, “Canadians and Americans have built our friendship and prosperity one generation at a time.”
“Together, we have stood in the face of tragedy, from American firefighters helping to combat the flames in Fort McMurray, to Canadians opening their homes to stranded American passengers after 9/11,” he said. “Together, we have built more opportunity and prosperity for our workers than we ever could have apart. Together, we have raised a monument to peace that is an inspiration to the entire world.”
Displays were also projected in Japan, Germany, Israel, and South Korea. The Holy See in Rome, Mexico, and Russia, also paid tribute to the United States.
