A Number of Republicans Do Not Plan to Attend Biden’s State of the Union Address

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton among a number of Republicans planning to boycott Biden’s upcoming State of the Union speech.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Cotton, along with other Republicans have announced they have no desire to be at the President’s annual address.
  • His spokesperson told Breitbart News the main reason for this decision was over “Nancy Pelosi’s COVID theatrics.”
  • Joining him is Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who shared he would not be attending over the newly announced COVID requirements.
  • “Below is the #CovidTheatre rituals required to attend the State of the Union,” Rubio tweeted. “No thank you, maybe next time.”
PENNSYLVANIA REP. SCOTT PERRY ON NOT ATTENDING THE PRESIDENTS SPEECH:

“The arbitrary and capricious rules set forth are nothing short of farce and political theater meant to deeply divide and further distract from a president who just never fails to fail.”

BACKGROUND:
  • In 2018, a number of Democrats refused to attend President Trump’s State of the Union address, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.
  • “After much deliberation, I have decided that I will not use my presence at a state ceremony to normalize Trump’s lawless conduct and subversion of the Constitution,” Cortez wrote at the time.
  • A number of well-known Republicans have not yet disclosed whether or not they will be in attendance, however, more are expected to boycott the event.
