The Smithsonian National Zoo has been pushing left-wing for the last several years, a review from Fox News Digital discovered.
The Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute has been found to have placed an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, as well as climate change, though its conservation research program. “Gender equity, civil liberties and justice are necessary ingredients for peace and prosperity, but they also have a direct impact on resource use and climate change,” a 2021 article on its website states.
A 2021 Smithsonian Magazine article also showcased how the National Zoo helped to launch the Association of Minority Zoo and Aquarium Professionals, whose mission was to “build a nationwide network of zoo and aquarium professionals, particularly those of racial and ethnic minority heritage” and “allow minorities interested in zoo careers, but who rarely can envision themselves in this role, to see examples of people who look and sound like them doing their dream job.”
“As the curator of large carnivores at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and a black man in the zoo field, I have long been keenly aware of the dearth of black and brown faces in my chosen field,” Smithsonian curator Craig Saffoe wrote in an article called, “Why a Group of Zoo and Aquarium Professionals Wants to Ensure the Future of Their Field Is More Inclusive.”
The Fox News review comes as the Trump administration has already taken action against the Smithsonian’s leftism. President Trump recently ordered the Smithsonian to implement signage warning guests of its ideological push within its exhibits, a move that follows the release of a report ripping the Smithsonian for its “political activism.”
