The U.S. military has experimented with a new technology called “Hammer of the Gods” on the West Coast.
The technology, described by the Army as an “emitter that provides an expanded suite of command-and-control (C2) and operational capabilities in a highly deployable, low-electromagnetic-signature, electronic warfare platform,” and delivers “multi-domain effects at the forward edge of operations,” was tested as part of a joint experimentation process with the Army, Navy, and Space Force.
“Joint experimentation is how we prepare for future fights,” said Lt. Col. Darrin Hall, Chief of Modeling, Simulation and Integration (S7/8) at U.S. Space Forces Pacific. “By integrating space, cyber and conventional forces into realistic scenarios, we strengthen our ability to operate as one joint team in contested environments.”
The Army explained that recent conflicts have highlighted the technology’s necessity.
“Positioning, Navigation and Timing is the foundation of modern military operations. Understanding how to protect and operate through PNT disruption ensures our forces can continue to shoot, move and communicate effectively,” Hall added. “Counter-PNT effects enhances lethality by impacting the backbone for pinpoint targeting via long range artillery, guided missiles, and cruise munitions. Without PNT data, modern weapon precision drops sharply, resulting in delayed missions, missed objectives, or severe collateral damage.”
The U.S. Space Force showcased new weapons last year. The weapons, called Meadowlands and the Remote Modular Terminal, are part of a larger “Counter Communications System,” which is to be deployed worldwide and operated remotely in an effort to combat Chinese space threats.
The new weaponry comes as a space threat fact sheet released by Space Force says that China and Russia are “developing new space systems to enhance military effectiveness and end any reliance on U.S. space services.” The two countries are also “fielding sophisticated counterspace capabilities with the intent to disrupt and degrade the U.S. space-enabled capabilities.”
