Ohio Clinic Offers Detransition Care

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation has agreed not to provide transgender-related surgeries and hormones for minors. The entity has provided $2 million to fund the detransition endeavor.

The Department of Justice announced that the clinic entered into an agreement on the matter with federal authorities and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. According to the agreements, the clinic will pay $308,000 to “resolve allegations regarding false billings submitted to public and private payors to secure insurance coverage for sex-rejecting procedures on minors,” and has committed $2 million to provide “restorative care for detransitioners,” the DOJ explained.

“I am grateful that institutions like Cleveland Clinic and Texas Children’s have decided to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” said Brett Shumate, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division. “Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to providing millions of dollars towards care for detransitioners is emblematic of just that. I am grateful for this resolution with Cleveland Clinic, but our work is far from over, and our division will continue to work tirelessly to protect America’s children and hold accountable those that have preyed on vulnerable children, whether they be pharmaceutical companies or medical providers.”

The agreements follow a similar arrangement made in Texas, where the Texas Children’s Hospital will create the Deetransition Clinic to help patients reverse the damages caused by ideologically-driven doctors who participated in transitioning individuals. “For the first five years, all services provided through the Detransition Clinic will be funded by Texas Children’s and be free of charge to patients,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said in a statement. The move comes after a years-long investigation by the Healthcare Program Enforcement Division.
