Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian labeled U.S. peace talks as “unconstructive and contradictory” in a Monday statement.
“Honoring commitments is the basis of meaningful dialogue,” Pezeshkian wrote on X. “Deep historical mistrust in Iran toward U.S. gov conduct remains, while unconstructive & contradictory signals from American officials carry a bitter message; they seek Iran’s surrender. Iranians do not submit to force.”
The statement comes as the U.S. military took action against an Iranian vessel. President Trump said that an “Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA, nearly 900 feet long and weighing almost as much as an aircraft carrier, tried to get past our Naval Blockade, and it did not go well for them.” He noted, “The U.S. Navy Guided Missile Destroyer USS SPRUANCE intercepted the TOUSKA in the Gulf of Oman, and gave them fair warning to stop. The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engineroom.”
The spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Lieutenant-Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, told state-run media, “Given the current situation, once the safety of the families and crew of the vessel targeted by American aggression is ensured, the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will take the necessary action against the terrorist US Army.”
President Trump later wrote on Truth Social that the deal his administration is “making with Iran will be FAR BETTER than the JCPOA, commonly referred to as ‘The Iran Nuclear Deal,’ penned by Barack Hussein Obama and Sleepy Joe Biden, one of the Worst Deals ever made having to do with the Security of our Country.”
He added, “If a Deal happens under ‘TRUMP,’ it will guarantee Peace, Security, and Safety, not only for Israel and the Middle East, but for Europe, America, and everywhere else. It will be something that the entire World will be proud of, instead of the years of Embarrassment and Humiliation that we have been forced to suffer due to incompetent and cowardly leadership!”
Earlier this month, Pezeshkian wrote an open letter addressed to Americans, claiming that Iran is not a threat to the American people. In the letter, seen as propaganda, Pezeshkian asserted that “portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical reality nor with present-day observable facts.” He wrote that such a perception is the “product of political and economic whims of the powerful– the need to manufacture an enemy in order to justify pressure, maintain military dominance, sustain the arms industry, and control strategic markets.”
