Dems Try to Get Hegseth Impeached

Democrats plan to introduce articles of impeachment against War Secretary Pete Hegseth, reports indicate.

Axios obtained a copy of the impeachment resolution, which focuses on Signalgate and alleged misconduct by Hegseth. According to the resolution, Hegseth has “authorized, supported, and advanced military operations lacking defined objectives, lawful authorization, or clear strategic necessity, knowingly exposing members of the Armed Forces of the United States to substantial and foreseeable risk of injury or death.”

Referring to Signalgate, the resolution adds that Hegseth has “demonstrated gross negligence in the handling of sensitive and classified military information, including through the use of unsecured communications systems like the Signal app to transmit or discuss operational details in flagrant contravention of United States law and military standards.”

The resolution also accuses Hegseth of abusing his power by “intervening in military disciplinary or personnel matters in a manner inconsistent with established law and practice, including targeting and launching bogus investigations against specific elected officials for the express purpose of political retribution.”

Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), the first Iranian-American Democrat elected to Congress, announced her intent to file articles of impeachment against Hegseth earlier this month, calling him the “chief enabler” of Trump’s Iran campaign and demanding the Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president.

“I am introducing Articles of Impeachment against Pete Hegseth for repeatedly violating his oath of office and his duty to the Constitution,” Ansari said in a statement. “Only Congress has the power to declare war, not a rogue president or his lackeys.”
