President Trump declared on Truth Social that Iran’s new leader has asked for a ceasefire.
“Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!” he wrote. “We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!”
He did not name the “new regime president.”
The news comes as President Trump said during a White House press conference that the Iran operation would conclude “within two weeks, maybe two weeks, maybe three.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday evening that President Trump will “give an Address to the Nation to provide an important update on Iran” on Wednesday night.
Iran previously rejected a U.S.-supported ceasefire proposal and instead demanded its own conditions to end the conflict. Iran demanded an end to “aggression and assassinations,” reparations, ensuring conflict is not restarted with Iran, the conclusion of the conflict with the Iranian resistance groups, and guarantees that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran’s control.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said last week that the U.S. is “on or ahead of schedule in that operation and expect to conclude it at the appropriate time here, in a matter of weeks, not months, and the progress is going very well. Obviously, we have some work to do. We have to finish the job, and we are finishing that job.”
