Kermit Gosnell, a doctor convicted of murdering babies after they had been born, reportedly died in a Pennsylvania prison.
The news, first reported by pro-life journalist Ann McElhinney, described Gosnell as a “chilling monster who could sometimes come across as charming.”
“In Gosnell’s 30 years of running his filthy abortion clinic in Philadelphia, it is thought that he murdered thousands of babies born alive,” she wrote on X. “The grand jury which investigated his case wanted to charge him with 200 recent murders but the move was stymied and reduced to just seven after pressure from senior political and law enforcement officials.”
Reports indicate that Gosnell’s clinic was known as the “house of horrors,” as he routinely carried out abortions past what was permitted under Pennsylvania law. as well as delivered babies still moving and breathing before killing them.
According to an article published in The BMJ, Gosnell faced life in prison after being found guilty of killing three babies who were born alive. His defense attorney argued during his 2013 trial that none of the babies were born alive, but instead moved due to posthumous twitching.
In addition to the murder charges, Gosnell was also convicted of operating a prescription pill scheme out of the clinic. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said in 2013 that Gosnell “pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, including oxycodone, alprazolam, and codeine; distribution and aiding and abetting the distribution of oxycodone; and maintaining a place for the illegal distribution of controlled substances.”
