Bill Clinton became the first former U.S President to be deposed in more than 40 years. His testimony centers on his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
In his opening statement shared on social media, Clinton claimed he “saw nothing” and “did nothing wrong.”
“Though my brief acquaintance with Epstein ended years before his crimes came to light, and though I never witnessed during our interactions any indication of what was truly going on, I am here to offer what little I know so that it might prevent anything like this from ever happening again,” the statement read.
Clinton claimed he had “no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing,” going on to assert, “I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didn’t do.”
Clinton’s wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, claimed during her deposition on Thursday that she had “no idea about their criminal activities. I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island home or offices.” Clinton stated she has been “horrified by what we have learned about their crimes. It’s unfathomable that Mr. Epstein initially got a slap on the wrist in 2008, which allowed him to continue his predatory practices for another decade.”
Ahead of Bill Clinton’s deposition, House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said that the former secretary of state deferred many of the questions to her husband. “So, we already had a big portfolio of questions for him, and that increased yesterday,” Comer said.
