Florida Honors President Trump with Airport Rename

Florida lawmakers have passed a bill renaming the Palm Beach International Airport after President Trump.

The bill, SB 706, was passed by the Florida Senate in a 25-11 vote. The vote came shortly after the companion bill, HB 919, passed in the House 81-30. According to the legislation, “The airport located at 1000 James L Turnage Boulevard in West Palm Beach, or nearest thereto, currently known as the ‘Palm Beach International Airport,’ shall be renamed as the ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport,’ subject to approval of the Federal Aviation Administration and execution of an agreement with the rights holder authorizing the commercial ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport’ by Palm Beach County.”

The bill states that the agreement “must, at a minimum, grant Palm Beach County the perpetual and unrestricted right to use the name ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport,’ as well as reasonable abbreviations or nonmaterial deviations thereof, at no cost, in signage, advertising, marketing, merchandising, and promotions and for the branding of the airport and its operations, services, and amenities, and all related purposes.”

White House communications director Steven Cheung celebrated the bill, writing on X, “Has a GREAT ring to it… President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

Florida also seeks to develop the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library in Miami. In October, Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and the Florida Cabinet passed a proposal to create the library in a 2.63-acre parcel in Miami-Dade County.

“Having the Trump Presidential Library in Miami will be good for Florida, for the city, and for Miami Dade College,” DeSantis said at the time. “No state has supported the president’s agenda more than the Free State of Florida, and I was proud to spearhead the effort to house this historic library right here in his home state.”
