The Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak, declared during an interview with Sports Spectrum that “our identity is in Christ.”
The interviewer asked Kubiak about “faith and the importance of your faith in Jesus in your life.”
Kubiak said that he has learned from different chaplains that “you identity is not in your job, our identity is in Christ, and when I spent more time in the Word from all the mentors I had in coaching who helped me get into Bible studies and reading the Word everyday, it took a really heavy load off.” He noted that he is a “child of God,” and his efforts “to be a good father and a faithful husband” are far more important than the game.
When asked about giving Bibles as Christmas gifts to the team, Kubiak declared it was “the most important thing.”
“You’re trying to find Christmas gifts for guys every year to show them that you love them,” he explained. “What better gift than that?”
Meanwhile, the New England Patriots quarterback, Drake Maye, told the outlet that he seeks to use his platform to “shine a light.”
“Knowing that [God’s Word is] bigger than football has been such a thing for me to lean on and take my thoughts away from football and know that this is my purpose and this is why I’m here on this stage today,” he said. “Being able to shine a light on others and get them to follow Jesus Christ is what I’m here for and what God put me here to do.”
“One of the best things about a football team is that there’s other brothers on the team that are followers of Christ,” Maye added. “Being able to share thoughts and sit down in chapel and listen to our chaplain, Mitch, talk before a game, it’s just so powerful. And realizing the night before a game that we’re in here spreading the Word and listening to the Word and knowing that that’s bigger than football.”
