The United States has revoked the privilege of Iranian officials and their families from being in the nation following the suppression of peaceful protests and the regime’s “brutal oppression.”
“As the people of Iran continue to fight for their basic rights, [Secretary of State Marco Rubio] took action this week to revoke the privilege of Iranian senior officials and their family members to be in the United States,” the State Department wrote on social media. “Those who profit from the Iranian regime’s brutal oppression are not welcome to benefit from our immigration system.”
On January 30, the State Department’s Principal Deputy Spokesperson, Tommy Pigott, announced that the nation has imposed sanctions on Iranian officials behind the “brutal crackdown of their own people.”
“The United States supports the Iranian people in their protests against the corrupt and repressive regime in Tehran,” the statement read. “We are designating six Iranian officials who oversee the Iranian security forces responsible for the violent crackdowns on protesters, as well as an Iranian investor who embezzled billions in funds from the Iranian people.”
The State Department’s actions come as President Trump declared that a “massive Armada is heading to Iran.”
“Hopefully Iran will quickly ‘Come to the Table’ and negotiate a fair and equitable deal – NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS – one that is good for all parties. Time is running out, it is truly of the essence!” Trump added. “As I told Iran once before, MAKE A DEAL! They didn’t, and there was ‘Operation Midnight Hammer,’ a major destruction of Iran.”
