US Officially Leaves Paris Climate Agreement

The United States has officially left the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, finalizing President Trump’s promise.

White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers confirmed the matter in an email to Politico. “Thanks to President Trump, the U.S. has officially escaped from the Paris Climate Agreement which undermined American values and priorities, wasted hard-earned taxpayer dollars, and stifled economic growth,” Rogers wrote. “This is another commonsense America First victory for the American people!”

President Trump withdrew from the Paris Agreement during his first term, although former President Joe Biden later rejoined the group.

Upon returning to office, President Trump again moved to pull the nation from the agreement. In January 2025, Trump’s executive order on the subject directed the United States Ambassador to the United Nations to “immediately submit formal written notification of the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.”

“It is the policy of my Administration to put the interests of the United States and the American people first in the development and negotiation of any international agreements with the potential to damage or stifle the American economy,” the order said. “These agreements must not unduly or unfairly burden the United States.”

According to a fact sheet regarding the U.S. withdrawal from international organizations, many of the entities “promote radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological programs that conflict with U.S. sovereignty and economic strength.”

“American taxpayers have spent billions on these organizations with little return, while they often criticize U.S. policies, advance agendas contrary to our values, or waste taxpayer dollars by purporting to address important issues but not achieving any real results,” the fact sheet explains.
