Ozempic Pharmacy Robbery Shocks PA Town, $16K Vanishes

A delivery driver in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, was robbed of $16,000 worth of prescription drugs outside a local pharmacy early Thursday morning. The stolen medications — Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Trulicity — are among the most in-demand treatments for diabetes and weight loss in the U.S.

According to Bensalem Township police, three suspects — including a juvenile — traveled from New York to commit the robbery. After assaulting the delivery driver in front of Smart Choice Pharmacy, the trio fled the scene in a gold-colored Toyota, nearly hitting a witness who was filming the incident.

Officers responding to a 911 call quickly located and arrested the suspects. They were identified as 41-year-old Joshua Dupree of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, 21-year-old Jahnoi Dawkins of Albany, New York, and a 17-year-old male from New York City. The suspects were positively identified by the victim.

Investigators revealed that the pharmacy had received suspicious phone calls and emails days before the robbery, suggesting the heist was premeditated. Police said the stolen boxes contained high-value GLP-1 medications, which are widely used for diabetes treatment and increasingly for weight loss — driving black-market demand.

Dupree and Dawkins were arraigned and are being held at Bucks County Correctional Facility with bail set at $150,000 and $250,000, respectively. The minor was taken to the Bucks County Youth Detention Center.

The crime underscores a rising trend in pharmaceutical-related thefts. As demand for GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic surges, so too does criminal activity. According to a 2024 KFF survey, about 6 percent of Americans are currently using these medications. The Better Business Bureau has also issued warnings about online scams offering counterfeit GLP-1 drugs through fake pharmacies and impersonator clinics.
