Faith Leaders Demand Action Against Abortion

A letter signed by various Christian leaders and pastors calls for action to be taken against abortion through what they believe is the responsibility of the church in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death.

The letter cites both Jeremiah 1:5 and Proverbs 24:11 in arguing that “every child is a gift from the Creator, and every mother and father deserve the compassion and hope found in the Gospel.”

“Yet in too many pulpits, this truth is absent,” the letter, addressed to fellow Christians, says. “Silence on abortion has become one of the Church’s greatest failings.”

“In recent days, America has witnessed a renewed hunger for truth. Following the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, churches across the nation have experienced a surge in attendance and revival,” it adds. “Charlie’s boldness in proclaiming life and truth has passed us a torch. That torch is not meant to be carried only by public figures. Rather, it belongs to the shepherds of God’s flock.”

Because of Kirk’s influence on the subject, the letter calls Christians to “preach the Gospel of Life with clarity and compassion” and to declare the truth and hope of Christ.

“Abortion is not merely one issue among many. It is a Gospel issue,” the letter reads. “It is the defining moral crisis of our day. And it is a moment in history when the Church must rise and speak with one voice.”

The letter’s signatories include Human Coalition President Jeff Bradford, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, Christians Engaged CEO Bunni Pounds, National Association of Christian Lawmakers founder Jason Rapert, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary President Daniel Akin, among others.
