FBI and Louisiana Police Team Up, Crackdown Begins Now

Federal and state law enforcement officials have launched a joint operation in New Orleans to protect immigration agents from rising threats as the Trump administration ramps up its immigration enforcement. The initiative, announced Wednesday, brings together the FBI and Louisiana State Police to shield federal officers from assaults and interference during “Operation Catahoula Crunch.”

The operation comes amid a wave of sanctuary policies across the state that have resulted in the release of criminal illegal aliens onto the streets. Homeland Security officials say the mission targets those who pose a threat to public safety, including individuals arrested for crimes such as home invasion, armed robbery, car theft, and rape.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Tapp issued a blunt warning: “We will not tolerate assaults on law enforcement officers in Louisiana, and there will be consequences.” He emphasized that any attempts to impede or assist in obstruction of federal immigration enforcement will result in swift arrests and federal prosecution.

The Louisiana State Police, under Superintendent Colonel Robert Hodges, will provide ground-level support, patrolling in uniform and marked vehicles to ensure public visibility and security during ongoing operations. “We will take immediate action on all state-level criminal violations involving the assault or battery of any law enforcement personnel,” Hodges said.

The enhanced enforcement efforts fall under federal law Title 18 USC Section 111, which criminalizes assault or interference with federal officers. Penalties range from up to one year for minor offenses to more than 20 years in prison for serious assaults involving deadly weapons.

Cases involving state law will be referred to local or state prosecutors, including the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, while federal charges will be reviewed by the appropriate U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, “Catahoula Crunch targets include violent criminals who were released after arrest. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, we are restoring law and order for the American people.”
