In a Facebook post on Saturday, Trever wrote, “I am honored to announce my candidacy for Congressional District 22 to continue fighting for the people of this district.” He praised Troy’s leadership and vowed to uphold the same “integrity, courage, and relentless commitment to public safety.” Trever promised to fight alongside President Trump to “secure the border, protect families, and stop the radical left.”
The announcement follows Troy Nehls’ statement earlier in the day confirming his retirement from Congress. After more than 30 years in public service—including military, law enforcement, and two terms in the House—Troy cited a desire to focus on family.
A staunch supporter of President Trump, Rep. Nehls made immigration enforcement a central pillar of his legislative agenda. He authored bills like the REMOVE Act and the ATD Act, and co-sponsored the Justice for Angel Families Act, aimed at supporting victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens.
Backing his brother’s campaign, Troy wrote, “I am endorsing my brother, Trever, to succeed me in Congress because I trust him, I believe in him, and I know he will fight every single day for the people of this district.”
Trever Nehls is no stranger to local politics. He previously served as Fort Bend County Constable and narrowly lost a bid for County Judge in 2022. With deep roots in the community, Trever declared, “I know this district. And this district knows me.”
His message to voters was clear: “I will strive to proudly represent you and carry on the tradition of America First leadership that our outgoing Congressman Troy Nehls set.”
