Trump Teases Ukrainian Peace Talks

President Trump teased on Monday that progress is being made on Ukrainian peace talks.

“Is it really possible that big progress is being made in Peace Talks between Russia and Ukraine???” he wrote on Truth Social. “Don’t believe it until you see it, but something good just may be happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said over the weekend that peace talks were “productive and meaningful.”

“Obviously, this will ultimately have to be signed off by our presidents, although I feel very comfortable about that happening given the progress we’ve made,” he told reporters.

“So, I think the takeaway from it is I think this was a very, very meaningful, I would say probably best meeting and day we’ve had so far in this entire process, going back to when we first came into office in January,” Rubio added. “But there’s still some work left to do and that’s what our teams are going to be doing right now, and we’d like to come back to you maybe a little later tonight with further updates.”

A White House statement on the Geneva-based meeting explained that the talks were “constructive, focused, and respectful, underscoring the shared commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace.”

“Both sides agreed the consultations were highly productive. The discussions showed meaningful progress toward aligning positions and identifying clear next steps,” the statement read. “They reaffirmed that any future agreement must fully uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty and deliver a sustainable and just peace. As a result of the discussions, the parties drafted an updated and refined peace framework.”
