Claudia Sheinbaum Condemns Charlie Kirk Assassination

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum publicly condemned the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, expressing opposition to political violence during her Thursday morning news conference. Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday at a public event in Utah, sparking national outrage and bipartisan condemnation in the U.S.

“We lament this event that took place in the United States with this activist, this person, Charlie Kirk,” Sheinbaum said. “We also are against any violence, particularly political violence.”

Sheinbaum’s remarks come amid rising concerns about the targeting of political figures and the breakdown of civil discourse. While leaders across the political spectrum have spoken out against Kirk’s murder, others on the radical left have shamefully celebrated the attack—highlighting the dangerous state of modern political rhetoric.

Kirk’s death has reverberated beyond U.S. borders, drawing international attention. In Mexico, coverage of the shooting was largely overshadowed by a tragic explosion involving a fuel-carrying tractor-trailer in Mexico City’s Iztapalapa borough. That blast left six people dead and over 90 injured, dominating national headlines.

Still, Sheinbaum took the opportunity to denounce violence in any form. Her statement contrasts with the silence or even approval shown by some left-wing activists in the United States, who have used Kirk’s death to promote divisive rhetoric instead of calling for peace and accountability.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was a prominent voice for traditional values, limited government, and constitutional rights. His murder has reignited debates over political violence, especially as the 2026 election cycle heats up.
