President Donald Trump announced that the American flag will be flown at half mast through Sunday evening.
“In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 P.M.,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
After Kirk’s passing, Trump wrote, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.”
“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot during a student event at Utah Valley University. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later passed away.
“We had a speaker, Charlie Kirk, who was invited by a student group, Turning Point USA, who was speaking on campus today at noon,” UVU spokesperson Ellen Treanor said in a statement earlier Wednesday. “At about 12:20 shots were fired from a building about 200 yards from the speaker. To the best of our knowledge, the individual was hit and was taken away immediately by his security personnel.”
Vice President JD Vance said of Kirk’s passing, “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “Jeanette and I are devastated. Charlie Kirk’s commitment to America’s future generations and sense of patriotism will resonate for decades to come. May the Lord bless Charlie and his family.”
“Well done, good and faithful servant,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on social media.
