A new report from the United Nations found that more than 14,000 migrants aiming to cross into the United States have begun returning home. The trend, called “reverse flow” migration, specifically affects Venezuelans and those moving north through Central America.
According to the report, northward migration dropped 97% this year. The report further claims that President Donald Trump’s policies are linked to the migration trends, with 46% of migrants stating that policy changes were behind their decision to return to their home country.
Illegal border crossings have plummeted to historic lows under President Trump, according to new data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “History made, again. The numbers don’t lie—this is the most secure the border has ever been. President Donald J. Trump didn’t just manage the crisis—he obliterated it. No more excuses. No more releases. We’ve put the cartels on defense and taken our border back,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem in August.
“CBP shut down illegal crossings again this month, setting enforcement records and collecting billions in tariffs,” CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott stated. “This is what making America great and safe again looks like.” There were 24,628 total migrant encounters nationwide in July.
Similarly, Border Patrol agents apprehended 8,024 illegal migrants in June. Among these, 6,072 were caught crossing between ports of entry, a 15 percent drop from March’s previous record low. This represents a staggering 93 percent decrease compared to June 2024 and a 97 percent drop from the 222,018 apprehensions recorded in December 2022 during the Biden administration’s peak border crisis.
