Chicago Weekend Shootings: Child Hit, One Killed

At least 17 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, including a 6-year-old boy, as violent crime under Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson’s leadership continues to plague the city. One man was fatally shot, adding to the grim tally of bloodshed in a city that reported 28 shootings and six deaths just the weekend before.

The youngest victim, a 6-year-old boy, was shot Friday night around 9:35 p.m. while sitting in a vehicle on the 3700 block of West 59th Place. Gunfire erupted from a passing vehicle, striking the boy in the backside. Authorities say the child was taken to a hospital in good condition. His injury, though non-fatal, underscores the indiscriminate nature of the violence ravaging Chicago neighborhoods.

The only fatality of the weekend occurred early Saturday morning at 4:44 a.m. on the 11600 block of South Church Street. A 28-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital. Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the killing.

Victims over the weekend ranged in age from 6 to 50 years old, according to CBS News. The violence struck various parts of the city, continuing a trend that has alarmed residents and raised questions about the effectiveness of current public safety strategies.

Despite repeated calls for tougher crime policies, Mayor Brandon Johnson has remained committed to progressive policing reforms. Critics argue that this approach has failed to deter escalating street violence and has left communities more vulnerable.

Chicago has become a focal point in the national debate on urban crime, law enforcement, and public safety. As shootings persist week after week, many are demanding stronger leadership and accountability to protect the innocent, especially children caught in the crossfire.
