In a fiery interview with PBS’ Frontline, War Room host Steve Bannon called out what he labeled a double standard in media outrage over political rhetoric—particularly when directed at judges. Bannon defended President Donald Trump’s criticism of federal judges while accusing outlets like PBS of ignoring threats and harassment faced by Supreme Court justices following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
“You guys are so f*cking phony on the face of it,” Bannon said to the interviewer. “You terrorize, you try to terrorize Supreme Court justices over a decision that didn’t go your way.”
The exchange began with the interviewer questioning whether Trump’s comments about judges were appropriate. Bannon interrupted, asking where PBS’s outrage was when conservative justices were targeted at their homes after the 2022 Dobbs decision. “I don’t remember anything about the rhetoric being too high,” Bannon said.
Bannon criticized what he described as selective outrage and media hypocrisy. He argued that calls for action against left-wing judges like Beryl Howell and James Boasberg were fair and should begin with House Judiciary Committee hearings. “These two are radicals,” he said, urging the committee to hold them publicly accountable.
While Bannon stated he was not explicitly calling for impeachment “right now,” he said such proceedings would send a message. “You put them through this process, whether you impeach them or not, all these other judges are going to fold.”
Emphasizing the need for Republicans to use the power they’ve gained, Bannon concluded, “Here’s what we know—if you take power and exert it, this system’s not so tough… They’re all gutless cowards.”
