Comey Condemns Daughter’s Dismissal

Former FBI Director James Comey declared that “reservoir” of trust in the federal government is in “grave danger.”

“Trump and the hacks who lead the Department of Justice are hammering at the dam day after day, trying to turn it into just another gold-leaf-covered Trump subsidiary,” he said, adding, “Our best hope is that good people will stay and do what Maurene asked — have the courage to do the right thing, always. You may get fired for acting that way, but there’s honor in that and nothing but disgrace for those who don’t stand up.”

The statement follows Comey’s daughter, Maurene, being removed from her role at the DOJ. Upon being dismissed, she wrote to her colleagues, “Yesterday was unexpectedly my last day in the Office. I was summarily fired via memo from Main Justice that did not give a reason for my termination.”

She argued that “we have entered a new phase where ‘without fear’ may be the challenge,” claiming that “if a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain. Do not let that happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought.”

“Instead of fear, let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place,” she said. “A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power. Of commitment to seek justice for victims. Of dedication to truth above all else.”
