DHS Celebrates ‘Most Secure Border in American History’

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the U.S. has yet again reached a record number of low apprehensions.

“In June, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had the lowest number of nationwide encounters in CBP history at 25,243,” DHS said. The number is 12% lower than the previous record set by President Donald Trump in February 2025 and is 89% lower than the monthly averages for 2021-2024.

Nationwide, there were 8,039 apprehensions, marking a “dramatic decrease” from June 2024, when 11,414 apprehensions were recorded.

Across the Southwest Border, only 6,070 were recorded, another substantial decrease from the more than 7,000 apprehensions recorded in the first two days of June 2024.

For the second month in a row, the department noted, there were zero releases of illegal migrants into the nation’s interior.

Border Patrol also reported low apprehensions for May, recording 8,725 confrontations with illegal immigrants, a 93% drop from a year earlier. The average number of daily encounters with illegal immigrants nationwide, including ports of entry, was 952. The number is a 2% decrease from April 2025.

“Encounter numbers continue to hold at historic lows, reflecting a border that is more secure, more controlled, and hitting unprecedented levels of operational success,” CBP said.

“The numbers don’t lie—under President Trump’s leadership, DHS and CBP have shattered records and delivered the most secure border in American history. The world is hearing our message: the border is closed to law breakers,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. “Under President Trump, our Border Patrol agents are empowered to do their job once again, secure our border and protect the American people.”
