Randi Mahomes, mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, made her position clear in a recent podcast appearance, stating her firm opposition to transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. Speaking on the MOMetize podcast, Mahomes cited fairness and biological differences between males and females as her main concerns.
The discussion was sparked by the controversy surrounding AB Hernandez, a male transgender high school athlete in California who dominated female competitors at the state championships. Host Tirralan Watkins asked Mahomes for her perspective on fairness in women’s sports.
“Personally, from being a woman and a girl and doing co-ed teams throughout my life… there is a huge difference between male and female,” Mahomes said. “I just think that it is not a fair matchup.”
While expressing support for individuals who identify as transgender, Mahomes emphasized that physical differences rooted in biological sex make mixed competition unjust. “I understand, I love everyone,” she said, “but when it comes to physical strength and our DNA, I don’t think it’s fair.”
Mahomes proposed the idea of creating a separate league for transgender athletes to allow for competition without compromising fairness in women’s sports. “I just think women really need to be with women. And men need to be with men,” she stated. “Physically, women are not as strong as men.”
Randi Mahomes, an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, is among the growing number of Americans who reject transgender participation in women’s sports. A 2023 Gallup poll reported that 69% of Americans oppose allowing biological males to compete against females.
Her comments reflect ongoing national debates surrounding fairness, safety, and the future of women’s sports under new gender inclusion policies.
