U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released border data for the month of May, revealing that zero illegal immigrants were permitted into the country’s interior throughout the month of May.
In May 2024, more than 62,000 were released into the United States.
Detailing border encounters that month, Border Patrol reported 8,725 confrontations with illegal immigrants, a 93% drop from a year earlier. The average number of daily encounters with illegal immigrants nationwide, including ports of entry, was 952. The number is a 2% decrease from April 2025.
“Encounter numbers continue to hold at historic lows, reflecting a border that is more secure, more controlled, and hitting unprecedented levels of operational success,” CBP said.
“Under the leadership of this administration, CBP has received historic support resulting in another 93% decrease in illegal crossings along the southwest border this month when compared with last year,” Acting Commissioner of CBP Pete Flores said in a statement. “Border numbers continue to trend at historic lows, reinforcing the sustained success of our enforcement efforts in securing the homeland and protecting American communities.”
Announcing the data on social media, CBP declared, “This administration has seen the fastest improvement in American border security of all time.”
While Border Patrol officers have seen a significant drop in encounters, several states are ramping up border wall construction. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded Fisher Sand & Gravel Co. more than $300 million to construct 27 miles of the Arizona border wall. DHS also issued a new waiver for border wall construction in Texas.
