GOP Bill Could Strip Planned Parenthood of Millions

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a comprehensive budget proposal that includes a provision to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood. This move aligns with longstanding efforts by conservative lawmakers to prevent taxpayer dollars from supporting organizations that perform abortions.

The bill clearly states that no Medicaid dollars “shall be used to make payments to a prohibited entity for items and services furnished during a 10-year period.”

The bill stipulates that any nonprofit organization primarily engaged in family planning services, reproductive health, and related medical care, which provides abortions and received over $1 million in Medicaid funding in 2024, will be ineligible for federal funds for a decade.

While the legislation does not explicitly name Planned Parenthood, the criteria directly apply to the organization.

Over the past two years, Planned Parenthood, while claiming nonprofit status, reported $206 million in profit, fueled largely by taxpayer funding. In 2024 alone, it received $792.2 million from government grants, contracts, and Medicaid—over $2 million per day, nearly half of its total revenue.

In return, taxpayers funded more abortions and fewer essential health services. Planned Parenthood performed 402,200 abortions last year. At the same time, its cancer screenings dropped sharply—breast exams down 61 percent and pap tests down 54 percent since 2013. Prenatal care and other non-abortion services also declined.

The organization ends the lives of hundreds of thousands of unborn children annually. This reality stands as a moral outrage and starkly contrasts the values of millions of Americans who reject the use of public funds for such practices.
