Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is under fire from constituents in her Queens and Bronx district, who accuse her of prioritizing national ambitions over local responsibilities. Critics point to limited office hours, infrequent town halls, and unresponsive communication as signs of neglect.
Residents express frustration over the congresswoman’s focus on national issues and media appearances, claiming she has become disconnected from the everyday concerns of her district. Some constituents describe her as an “absentee landlord,” highlighting a perceived lack of engagement with local matters.
The criticism comes amid reports that Ocasio-Cortez’s district offices have limited availability, with one office open only a single weekday and the other closed on Fridays. Constituents report difficulties in reaching staff and scheduling appointments, leading to feelings of abandonment.
The New York Post, shared a piece titled, ‘AOC’s District Neglect: Letters to the Editor.’ in which several citizens spoke out against the young congresswoman.
One frustrated voter named Storm Destro wrote: “To all the people in AOC’s district complaining that she does nothing but spend tax money on herself, here’s a crazy idea: Stop voting for her.
“You complain, yet don’t get off the barstools on Election Day. She wins with minimal voter turnout. What does this tell you?”
As Ocasio-Cortez continues to build her national profile, including potential aspirations for higher office, the growing discontent among her constituents raises questions about her commitment to the district she represents. The situation underscores the challenges elected officials face in balancing national prominence with local responsibilities.
