Tennessee Republican Reintroduces Bill Creating Pregnancy Resource Website

Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) is reintroducing a bill to create an official website to provide pregnancy resources to expectant mothers.

The bill, obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller and called the “Pregnancy.Gov Act,” creates a website that includes “relevant resources available for pregnant women,” “questions through which a user is able to generate a list of relevant resources of interest within the user’s zip code,” as well as location and other tools.

The bill further establishes a grant program allowing states to establish or support pregnancy resource information.

“Making use of preexisting government resources and programs, Pregnancy.gov would be implemented with no net cost to the federal government, and would leverage the government’s resources, preexisting assistance programs and intergovernmental relationships, and credibility intrinsic to a ‘.gov’ address,” a press release explains, emphsizising that “no mother should ever have to feel alone.”

The website would include resources for areas such as adoption information, alternatives to abortion, breastfeeding, clothing, nutrition, child development, housing, pregnancy counseling, prepartum and postpartum services, tax information, services for domestic and sexual violence, and support services, among others.

“This legislation has the potential to save countless unborn lives while helping families welcome God’s greatest gift into the world,” Harshbarger said. “I’m proud to lead this effort and continue standing as a strong voice for life.”

Similarly, Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) reintroduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act. The bill establishes a resource directory for “pregnant and postpartum women, and women parenting young children” on a “pregnancy.gov” website.
