The Trump administration has launched a new website that bears a resemblance to the outlet Drudge Report.
The website, called the White House Wire, features headlines supporting President Trump and his policies. The site’s current top headline celebrates the newly established rare earth mineral deal reached with Ukraine. Each headline links to a media publication from outlets such as Fox News, Breitbart, the Daily Caller, and others, or a social media post.
Drudge Report responded to the website with a headline reading, “Trump Launching His Own Drudge Report Using Taxpayer Dollars!”
Matt Drudge, the site’s creator, commented on the development to Axios, joking, “I’m considering a $1 trillion lawsuit!”
A White House official told the outlet that the site provides a space for “supporters of the president’s agenda to get the real news all in one place in a shareable and readable format.” The official explained that the website is a “one-stop shop for news and is part of the Trump administration’s effort to provide transparency and institute policies that put America first.”
The website launch comes as the White House has implemented changes to its press pool. The Hill reported earlier this month that the pool will consist of one print journalist serving the “print pooler,” an additional print journalist, crew from a major television network, crew from a secondary television network, one radio journalist, one independent journalist, and four photojournalists.
Outlets included in the press pool will be chosen on a rotating basis, the official told the publication.
