Gaza nurse threatened by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) after publicly urging its operatives to vacate the medical facility, warning their presence was endangering patients and drawing potential Israeli military response.
Mohammad Sakr, the top nurse at the hospital in Khan Younis, posted a message on Facebook identifying himself and openly condemning PIJ for converting the hospital into a base for terror activity. He stated that he personally pleaded with the militants to leave, in hopes of protecting the hospital and its patients.
Shortly afterward, Sakr discovered a typed threat left in his office, signed by al-Quds Brigades, PIJ’s military wing. The warning read, “Dear one: You’ve crossed the line — be careful!! This is your first warning.” Sakr called the message “brutal,” and urged the public, “in the name of God,” not to forgive those responsible.
PIJ and Hamas, both designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations by the U.S. State Department, have long been accused of using Gaza’s civilian infrastructure — including hospitals, schools, and homes — for military purposes. Israeli officials maintain that these tactics violate international law and use civilians as human shields.
Over the weekend, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted a Hamas command center operating from within Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City after detecting rocket fire from the area. No casualties were reported, as medical staff were alerted and evacuated in advance. Similar reports detail Hamas forces using Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, where militants displaced new mothers to occupy recovery rooms.
Tensions continue to rise in Gaza as ordinary civilians and medical workers push back against terrorist factions. Public dissent is spreading despite the risks. Demonstrations across the enclave have seen Gazans chant anti-Hamas slogans and call for an end to its rule. In northern Gaza, protests against Hamas have occurred for three consecutive weeks. Palestinian sources report that Hamas responded by executing protest organizers.
This wave of internal resistance signals growing frustration among Gazans, many of whom are rejecting the militant grip over their territory. As Israel intensifies its campaign, signs of public defiance are beginning to reshape the dynamics on the ground.
